Overview of Program
Chase has teamed with blackfilm.com, HBO and Kodak to launch The Chase Legacy Film Challenge, a filmmaker contest created to provide a platform for emerging filmmakers from Atlanta, Houston, Chicago and New York to share their stories of creating and preserving legacy within the African-American communities through the lens of a camera.
Call for Entry and Judging
The call for entry starts on January 21 and runs until March 8. blackfilm.com will select 16 semi-finalists whose films will be shown to an industry film panel. This panel will select four finalists—one from each city.
KODAK Filmmaker Grants
Finalists will receive grants and equipment from Kodak to produce five-minute short films that will be showcased via this site from March – June 2008. Films will also be screened during Chase’s Legacy of Homeownership Tour, a four-city tour happening from April – June that educates consumers on how to establish and preserve a legacy through homeownership.
The HBO Filmmaker Award
The grand prize winner will be announced in July at a special industry screening in New York City, and the film may have the opportunity to be aired on HBO properties.
Why Legacy?
The program will empower four independent filmmakers to create works that demonstrate the importance of establishing a lasting legacy in the African-American community for future generations. Chase believes that owning a home is a key function of creating a lasting legacy, and vital to the continued growth of the community.
How to Enter
The cutoff for entries will be March 8. To enter, you will need to submit an existing work, along with a treatment for a five-minute (or less) short film around the topic of “Legacy in the African-American Community.
